The Sydney duo’s first hometown show in two years did not disappoint…

It’s safe to say Sydney is still on a high following Flight Facilities’ enormous Airfields show back in March, the long-awaited mini-festival serving as not only the duo’s return to the big stage, but the unofficial return of live music in Sydney. They amassed a star-studded bill for it as well, bringing together everyone from international export CC:DISCO! to Canadian queen of soul Jayda G, Cosmos Midnight, Sycco and more for the explosive affair.

No doubt Airfields was a huge undertaking, countless logistical concerns, restrictions and even torrential rain permeating its lead up, so much so that the duo were forced to change venues just a couple days out. Now, however, you’re getting the chance to see just what went on behind the scenes in its lead up, as today we’re premiering the official behind the scenes doco Turbulence at Takeoff.

Clocking in at a total of three-and-a-half minutes long, the feature showcases everything from Jimmy and Hugo rehearsing the live show to organising a new venue at the last minute and everything in between. It definitely makes you appreciate just how much work went into Airfields, the duo also taking us through all the technical and musical parts of it along with the vast amount of nerves permeating their return to the live stage, with Hugo Gruzman himself hilariously confessing at one point “No matter how composed I may seem, I am shitting myself”.

It makes the pay-off at the end of the clip all the more worth it, shots of a packed out Moore Park and an adoring screaming crowd filling the airwaves as we’re treated to a montage of Flight Facilities doing what they do best on the big stage. Set to the title track of latest album FOREVER, the latter portion of the doco nicely bookends not only the doco, but Flight Facilities’ long-awaited return to the live stage as a whole. Check it out above, and if you’re in Perth this Saturday, be sure to cop tickets via Secret Sounds to catch the final show of Flight Facilities’ National FOREVER Tour at Red Hill Auditorium with Wafia and merci, mercy.
