South-West Sydney’s own rap group Freesouls might be known for their street-ready narratives, but they turn down a different, darker path for their new single ‘Voodoo Child.’

It’s the first taste from their forthcoming Modern Day Slaves EP set to drop on April 20th (a pretty appropriate date, if you ask them) and touches on living everyday behind a facade. “‘Voodoo Child’ is a song basically explaining and outlining how some of us feel everyday before we put on our social mask… we’re showing people that they’re not alone in this journey of conscious awakening, and that it’s time now – especially in 2018 – to speak up about any social, personal or political issues one may have,” the group says.

The track sees all three members rhyme like men possessed over eerie production, and ‘Voodoo Child’ gets a video to match. Featuring old-school camcorder aesthetic and distorted effects, follow Freesouls as they head into an abandoned shed in the woods; surrounded by candles, flames and occult symbols. It comes off feeling like an old horrorcore crew mixed with The Blair Witch Project, and marks a more menacing side of Freesouls, despite the track’s down-tempo nature.
