After a wild couple of years where they found themselves constantly in and out of vans, planes and hotels, relentlessly touring at home and overseas, punk-rockers The Gooch Palms understandably needed a little down time. Anyone who’s been to a Goochies show will know that they put everything into their shows, and many fans were getting a little anxious after not having heard from them for a little while. Thankfully, however, it was only a matter of months before their triumphant return, hitting us with two singles; the spaced out ‘Marfa Lights’ and the fempowered anthem ‘Busy Bleeding’, and today we further evidence of their return to form in ‘Summertime’.
Dropping just in time for the months of rolled down windows, beach trips and afternoon beers, the sugary garage number is everything we’ve come to expect from the Goochies; upbeat rhythms, gritty guitars and hooks that will be dancing around in your head for days (or months). The infectious nature of the melody is especially brought to light when Kat (Friend) and Leroy (Macqueen) sing a verse in French – you don’t understand the words but it’s so catchy you can’t help but get into it.
In typical Goochies fashion the clip doesn’t look like it cost a million dollars, but it’s another example of how a simple idea and shit-tonne of personality is all it take to get you completely hooked. Watching them their way around the country, you could be forgiven for thinking they spent their downtime rehearsing their moves… or maybe not.
