You’re always walking a fine line when attempting a cover of a huge track, you’ve got to balance paying just the right amount of respect to the original artist/s whilst also injecting your own style into the tune. Melbourne’s Halcyon Drive have done just that with their version of Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s ‘All The Stars.’
Swapping out the driving beats of the original in favour for a stripped back guitar, their take on the track allows singer Michael Oechsle’s vocals to soar as they build up towards a huge psych-pop jam that will send shivers down your spine. Yes, it’s that smooth:

Fresh off the back of a national tour with Stereophonics, the boys have clearly maintained their excellent run of recent form off the back of their latest (original) single ‘Silver Ray,’ which saw them plastered on international blogs, amass thousands of streams and gain support from Triple J. It’s got us on the edge of our seats waiting for whatever is coming up next for Halcyon Drive.
