If this doesn’t get you excited for Holy Holy’s national tour, we don’t know what will.

It seems that things are ramping up exponentially right now for indie-rock duo Holy Holy. Much to the delight of fans around the country, the past couple of weeks has seen them unleash their gripping third album My Own Pool of Light, amass hundreds of thousands of streams, and announce a 16-date national headline tour (dates below). Today, we can add drop a tasty live track to that list, with a raw and electrifying version of album favourite ‘Teach Me About Dying’ featuring Ali Barter.

Continuing to expand on their guitar-led “rock” beginnings the tune has some definite 80’s pop undercurrents, with the drum machine intro a noticeable departure from anything we heard on 2017’s Paint. But what really stands out is the way singer Timothy Carroll’s energetic vocals connect with the reverb-drenched guitars, elevating the song to a near sermonic experience.

The grandeur nature of the performance makes sense, given the existential focus of the lyrics. “For some reason we wrote a few songs for this record that speak to mortality. I think this song’s about being alive, although you might not notice that from the title…” guitarist Oscar Dawson says.

“‘Teach Me About Dying’ is a two-act play about the ways death imbues life with meaning. Mellotron and a cure-esq six-string bass part give the song the feeling of an 80s coming of age soundtrack,” Timothy adds.

If your reaction to ‘Teach Me About Dying’ was anything like ours, chances are you’re looking up ticket info for this tour as we speak, but let us save you a search. Head here to get your hands on them and we’ll see you there.
