The Sydney three-piece drop one hell of a debut video and EP.

Having formed less than six months ago, grunge band Mazda Three have wasted no time in recording their debut EP Things You May Find In Your Back Yard, and just like their single ‘Butterfly,’ it contains chunky bass riffs, spacey guitars and vocals with some heavy drums – a tasty concoction from the lads.

The clip for ‘Butterfly’ which was directed by cultish production company Throat Pasta sees the group chow down on some fast food before taking to Sydney Park to mingle with the fauna and manikin body parts. There’s a doomy vibe in the grainy, washed-out video which is reminiscent of ‘Hooch’ by Melvins or The Smashing Pumpkins ‘1979’ and, like the tune itself, takes us back to the heyday of 90s alternative music.

Conceptually the band have taken an interesting route, with each song on the EP (which is out now through Cave Head Records) representing an animal found in your everyday Aussie back yard. You could make a game out of it: gather some friends, pump the EP, hunt for the animals in the back yard and the first person to find them all gets a prize… Or maybe just pump the EP.

Mazda Three will be launching Things You May Find In Your Back Yard this weekend with Cold / Heat at the Gaelic Club (info here) so make sure you get the to see if they actually do use cymbals or have become accustomed to the sweet sound of eucalyptus trees.
