Comprised of Saint Rich, Alien, Big Daddy Jorge, Blx Boi, Don Blanko, Lino Brown, P, Jools, and The R155, 9-piece hip-hop outfit RICH VALENTINE have been churning out underground heaters and turning heads for the best part of two years. With four projects in the bag by the end of 2018, this year has been all about getting singles out, culminating in RICH VALENTINE today dropping arguably their best work to date. ‘Ricca Donna’ featuring A$AP TWELVYY, is a flex of youthful exuberance that captures the collective’s philosophy that rich is in the mind, not the pocket.
The collaboration came to fruition during A$AP TWELVYY’s Australian festival run earlier this year. “We reached out to him before he landed. We asked if he wanted to collaborate and the rest is history. A couple weeks before hand we had dropped our first ever music video called ‘La Haine’ and he said he had watched it. He must have liked the energy and the family element of our group.” Shoot your shot. Perhaps reminiscent of early A$AP energy and material, that glimpse into RICH VALENTINE’s world was enough to get the A$AP Mob rapper on board for a track. Through the collaboration, as well as making a dope piece of art, RICH VALENTINE promise to make an impression on hip-hop’s mecca, New York.
Asked what their goals are for 2020, their answer was simple but emphatic. “Creative freedom. We don’t have a lot of things like a studio, or nice cameras. We just want to be able to create the best and have access to tools that could help that. We want to grow our fanbase and go on tours. We’re ready, we just want the opportunity.” While the rest of the country will have to wait a little longer for a live glimpse at the eclectic rap group, those in Perth over New Years’ will be able to catch them on the Origin Fields lineup alongside Tyler, The Creator, Skepta and YBN Cordae.
