Having only formed a few months back, Sydney five-piece Repo Man are clearly intent on establishing themselves as one of Sydney’s heaviest and darkest acts. Dropping their debut video today for their industrial flavoured grunge tune ‘8mm’, they are well on their way to achieving that goal.
The track sways like a drunkard at a rock show between tense verses and spacey guitar jams, with singer Josh Duffy’s vocals acting as your guide through the highs and lows of the Repo Man world. Drawing on dark imagery, with emotive fluctuations in melody, his singing is comparable to Birthday Party-era Nick Cave, and it may even be more entrancing.
The clip, which was directed by Duffy and Jon Reid, is a unsettling collage of pixels, slow motion bed jumping, and washed out lights. It’s a fitting accompaniment to the gritty track, with the grainy footage looking like it was captured inside the basement of psychopath – and who knows, maybe it was…
