Rosa Maria are back with their first new music of 2019.

It’s been a little while between drinks for Sydney’s chief purveyors of garage-based, freakbeat-flavoured psychedelia. Last we heard from Rosa Maria was their 2018’s ‘Howlin’’, and frankly, it’s been a long six or so months. Fortunately, however, they’ve made up for it today – hitting us with new shows, new album details, and a sizzling new tune and video to go with it all.

‘Tell The Devil’ features all the trinkets that Rosa Maria fans have come to depend on; punchy beats, jangly guitar licks, and vocal hooks that will be swimming around in your head all day long. Lyrically the tune centres around singer Broc Townsend’s musical addictions. “It’s about how rock ‘n’ roll won’t leave me alone – it continues to show it’s face time and time again,” he explains.

The video, which was directed and edited by Jamieson Kerr, sees Broc emerge from the ocean where he’s been dumped by some mysterious figures, before accruing some creepy guitar-wielding comrades. It’s an intriguing ride, and even the devil himself makes an appearance, which we can only imagine sent the budget into overdrive.

Ironically, for a song incorporates metaphor about the fiery depths of hell, the actual shoot sounds like a pretty chilly experience. “We chose a secret beach so we knew we could light a fire and get away with it,” guitarist, Bobby Diamond explains. “It was also shot during a thunderstorm, which we didn’t plan. Broc was tossed into the water (fully clothed) numerous times from 8pm-3am and was throwing up by the end of the night.”
