SOMA goes the extra mile with her COBRA visuals.

If you’ve been bumping Soma Sutton, aka SOMA, over the past few years, you’ll be all too aware that she knows how to spice up a track. While she can effortlessly sway between R&B, hip-hop, and neo-soul, each drop feels undeniably connected, with her vocals sitting in that sweet spot where attitude and inflection collide. When her music is on the speakers, it only takes a few bars for you to recognise who you’re dealing with… and the power she brings.

COBRA is a collection of deeply personal stories splayed over hook after hook. It’s strange to say that tracks with such heavy lyrical weight still hit hard, but it’s true. Big vocal energy, saucy melodies, and sensual grooves are all part of SOMA’s DNA – so no matter how her words resonate with you, the music is always straight-up fun. For SOMA, who worked with famed producer Danny Duke (Lizzo, Sampa the Great), the mixtape is a rebirth of sorts…

“COBRA explores life, love, loss, self-discovery, and empowerment,” she says. “It’s about healing from trauma, letting go of pain, and reclaiming your power. Each track tells its own story while contributing to this larger narrative of resilience and growth. Writing this was an empowering and deeply cathartic experience. I chose the mixtape format because I wanted to release a cohesive body of work that truly represents my sound and my story. It feels so good to finally get these thoughts out—onto paper, into music. My own therapy sessions. My metamorphosis.”

“As a multicultural woman from Australia, I believe music and the arts hold profound power to dismantle barriers and pave the way toward a more inclusive and compassionate future”.

The accompanying 20-minute video, directed by Frederick McHenry, feels like a glimpse into SOMA’s mind – dark, entrancing, and undeniably beautiful. Psychedelic visuals bleed into futuristic cityscapes and leafy dream worlds, taking us on a trip (pun totally intended) into the world of COBRA.
