If you were one of those lucky enough to be in attendance at the Lansdowne on Friday night for the Ruben Neeson/The Melodrones double-header, you’ll have witnessed an especially powerful show from the blues-flavoured indie rocker. Seemingly making up for lost time, Neeson and his band gave a performance that reminded us why we are so sorely missing live music at the moment.
Today, we’re sharing something that will hopefully go some way to settling those post-weekend blues, with a brand new clip for ‘I Just Don’t Know The Truth’. The tune, which dropped a couple of weeks back, is a heartstrung tale of cat and mouse between two lovers, with Neeson delivering those dark and broody vocals we’ve heard on previous singles ‘Cut The Branch’ and ‘The Sound’. It feels like everyone who has seen/heard him knows there’s something special about his music, and this track only confirms that notion – we don’t know what it is, but we’re very into it.
The accompanying clip, which was shot by Melodrones frontman Rik Saunders, is a sepia-toned day in the life of Neeson as he hits the ocean and a bowling alley armed with his trusty guitar. It captures the gritty tone of the tune nicely and the yellowish wash adds to those enigmatic, vintage vibes he is constantly radiating. It’s shot as if he’s just stumbled out of a bar in the ‘70s with a guitar and landed smack bang in 2020.

The clip comes with the news that the debut EP from Ruben Neeson, titled Permanent Chills, will be hitting our earholes very soon. Stay tuned for it.
