And they’re going the horror-comedy route with it, playing fictionalised versions of themselves in their upcoming feature STUDIO 666. The film follows the band as they arrive at a Los Angeles mansion to record their 2021 album Medicine At Midnight (which is where they actually recorded it). However, contrary to real life, as they get further into the recording of the album, the band becomes victim to a swathe of demons, spirits and just about every other horror-comedy troupe.
Grohl quickly becomes the main antagonist of the film, becoming possessed by a supernatural spirit as he begins to attack his bandmates; ultimately culminating in him shoving bandmate Chris Shiflett’s face onto a fired-up barbecue. Thankfully, the trailer doesn’t see him attack his famous neighbours, with Hollywood A-listers Whitney Cummings and Lionel Ritchie also making cameos in the trailer.
Speaking on the genesis behind the film, Grohl explains “After decades of ridiculous music videos and numerous music documentaries under our collective belts, it was finally time to take it to the next level… Filmed at the same house where we recorded our latest album ‘Medicine at Midnight’ (told you that place was haunted!), we wanted to recapture the classic magic that all of our favourite rock and roll movies had, but with a twist: hilarious gore that fucking ROCKS.”
STUDIO 666 will be arriving in theatres on February 25th. Check out the full trailer below.
