Respect for Post just went up by a thousand…

Have you got plans for Pokemon Day? Actually, let me rephrase that. Did you know that Pokemon day was a, well, day? Well it is, and you’ve now got plans for it, as global superstar Post Malone is playing a virtual concert to celebrate the game that made all our childhoods.

It turns out Post is a huge fan of the Pokemon franchise, still owning his Game Boy Colour so he can play OG versions of the game, which, like Post, are now 25-years-old. Noting the sharing of ages with the beloved game, Post said in a statement “I’ve been a fan for such a long time, kind of grew up with it. Celebrating 25 years is a big deal, so we decided to do it together.”

The extravaganza is part of of Pokemon’s “P25 Music” initiative, with Post being the first artist to team up with Pokemon, with more details set to be released at the end of his concert. The 30-second ad for the concert sees Post walking toward a stage, reflecting on the journey to this point as he narrates “I never would’ve guessed we would be here today; after 25 years”, before being seen brandishing a hallowed Poke-ball and going full virtual as he says “but now we’re here, and it feels so good”.

The concert will be available to watch for free on Saturday, February 27 at 7:00 pm ET. You can catch it on Pokémon’s YouTube channel, Twitch channel and 25th Anniversary website. For now, check out the trailer for the concert below.
