Much needed…

Hot off the release of their latest album What You Gonna Do When The Grid Goes Down, hip hop legends Public Enemy took to The Late Show to deliver a killer performance of their soul-touching hit ‘Grid’. They brought backup as well, bringing out B Real from Cypress Hill and the god of funk George Clinton. They also topped the performance off with a stellar light show, and of course they totally rocked the house, imagining a world without electronic devices and 24 hour TV (how terrifying).

The tune really does hone in on our addicted we all are to our devices, rapping hard hitting lyrics like ‘No GRID is what we need for new human contact/ Not even your own server can save you/ We all caught up in the web is so true/ No GPS what will you do? (No e-mails or WHATSAPPs coming thru).’ If anyone had somehow forgotten why Public Enemy are one of the most revered hip hop groups of all time, this performance and tune will definitely remind them why.

The performance and album comes after several months of obvious unrest with the world, but also within the band, which appeared to be splitting up before the pandemic. But you wouldn’t be able to tell from their Late Show performance, the hip hop OGs rapping together with such ferocity and unity you’d think this was a performance from the early 1990s. It’s pretty sick, check it below.
