Watch The Sydney Youth Orchestra Cover Darude’s Classic ‘Sandstorm’

Meme culture is a funny thing. It’s brought everyone from Shannon Noll to Nickleback into unprecedented online relevance, a concoction that’s equal parts nostalgia and irony which spreads like wildfire online.

Another artist that’s been swept up in the phenomenon is Darude, and more specifically his 1999 anthem ‘Sandstorm’. When Peking Duk began dropping the hit at shows and festival arenas, the momentum was enough to push ‘Sandstorm’ back into the charts – well over a decade after it was initially released. Darude was even billed on Future Music Festival in 2015 off the back of the unlikely resurgence, and now the track has once again been given new life from the Sydney Youth Orchestra.

As part of their IGNITE show for Vivid Sydney, the orchestra delivered a rousing rendition of ‘Sandstorm’ with instruments aplenty. Check out the video below, and make sure you head to Vivid to see some pretty lights and some excellent shows, too:
