King of pop, soul and probably five other genres that have yet to be named, The Weeknd returned to SNL as the musical guest this past weekend to drum up excitement for his fourth studio album ‘After Hours’, and it’s safe to say it definitely worked.
Performing in a gorgeous red and black get up, Abel invoked some serious 80’s vibes with his hit ‘Blinding Lights’, featuring some gorgeous spacey synths and a floor to the floor rhythm that’s impossible not to dance to.
‘Scared To Live Again’ saw the Toronto superstar double down on his strengths as he slowed it down to deliver the feels, his insane tenor vocals soaring to heights we didn’t know Abel could even reach. Singing about heartache, pain and all the juicy stuff, Abel truly shone as he showcased why he’s one of the most in demand artists in the world right now.
The magnetic performance also saw the RNB king perform in his now signature bandaid over the nose and streak of blood. Not gonna lie I was kinda taken aback at first and was worried old mate had had a bit of a trip backstage, but it’s defs just for aesthetic purposes and totally works.
Judging by his appearance on SNL, looks like The Weeknd is on a real creative high right now, and if ‘After Hours’ is anything like what ‘Blinding Lights’, ‘Scared To Live Again’, as well as ‘Heartless’ have led us to believe, it look’s like Abels gonna be dominating the sound waves in 2020, and we’re definitely all for it…
