The RnB crooner “says [his] final goodbyes” to the After Hours era.

The Weeknd left his 32 million Instagram followers scratching their heads on Friday, after he uniformly deleted all of his posts and…wait for it…removed his profile picture (gasp!). As is par for the course when any celebrity tweaks their online activity, The Weeknd’s recent digital detox has put Internet sleuths into overdrive, with many eagle-eyed fans taking it as the first morsel of an upcoming album.

The social media whispers of what would be The Weeknd’s fifth studio album are not without precedent. Early last year, the artist similarly wiped-clean his Instagram profile in the lead-up to the release of After Hours; an album rollout which saw him practically live in a blood-red blazer and sport gory plastic surgery wounds. And while this aesthetic has perhaps overstayed its welcome (Blinding Lights spent a whopping 78 weeks on the Billboard Charts), much less is known about Abel’s unofficially announced project.

Taking Tweets as gospel (obviously), fans and modern-day Sherlock Holmes’ have decoded the singer’s cryptic posts in recent weeks, spotlighting his farewell messages and tentatively titling his new album ‘The Dawn.’ After trending on Twitter and telling Rolling Stone that he “might have another album ready to go,” The Weeknd has masterfully teased that something is in the works, but specific release dates remain up in the air.

Fans shouldn’t worry too much about The Weeknd’s social media absence. Last month, the singer announced that he is producing and starring in ‘The Idol,’ an upcoming HBO show to be released sometime next year, promising fans their much-needed fix of all things Abel.
