Bluesfest – the Byron Bay festival dedicated to blues & roots, independent acts and music that your parents listen to – has just revealed its latest lineup additions. Fresh artists to join the 2018 event include Sheryl Crow, Harts, Ásegir and surprisingly enough, pop princess Kesha. As noted by Junkee, it’s the first time a contemporary, mainstream popstar has headlined the festival, and the left-field choice has already proving to be polarising amongst Bluesfest attendees online.
While Kesha’s time in the spotlight was defined by hard-hitting electropop anthems like ‘Tik Tok,’ her more recent work has largely departed that sound – especially this year’s Rainbow album, which found the singer leaning on soul, gospel and country influences with greater weight. So, perhaps the latest Bluesfest selection isn’t so random at all – but there’s no doubt that public perception of Kesha is still focused on her chart-topping, fist-pumping days.
Will Kesha be able to win over the protective audiences of Bluesfest, and how will her set go down in the lush surrounds of Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm in Byron Bay? This will be an interesting one. See the latest lineup additions below, and see Kesha alongside Lionel Richie, Robert Plant, Tash Sultana, Chic & Nile Rodgers in March. Tickets here:
