Lots of things are born in festival tents. New friendships, relationships and hell, even a lifelong oath to never do a nang again (miss you, Splendour 2018). However, for Sunshine Coast four-piece, Betty Taylor, it’s their latest single ‘Glitter’ that was conceived in one of those makeshift abodes, and luckily for us, it’s out today.
Made up of stirring guitar lines, steady drums and an aloof vocal line that prompts huge swells of emotion, the track calls out those couples who sugar-coat everything while communicating. It’s a nuanced concept for an indie-rock song, buoyed by some rather spicy lyrics, with a personal favourite being, “You’ve been driving me crazy/Everything you say is bullshit baby/And I’ve been playing it safely/You don’t really think that you could save me.”
The accompanying visuals mix BTS tour footage with clips of the band kicking it between shows and goofing off. It’s a tried and true formula that plenty of bands have utilised in the past, but with Betty Taylor, it feels especially authentic and alluring (the downing of the instant noodles at 2:57 speaks to me on a spiritual level).
The band have also announced a series of shows around the country, scheduling dates for the likes of Felons Brewing Co in Brissy, Yah Yah’s in Melbs, Vic On The Park in good old Sydney and the North Gong Hote. The best part is that all shows (aside from Melbourne) are free entry, so you’ve got no excuse not to go see them… Be sure to cop tickets here and check out the full video for ‘Glitter’ above.
