Taking to Twitter, the polarising Atlanta rapper has revealed that he will be known as ‘SEX’ from hereon in. “I’m changing my name to SEX,” he wrote. “For now on call me SEX!!!”
I’m changing my name to SEX….
— Young Thug ひ (@youngthug) February 20, 2018
This isn’t the first time that Thugger has opted for a name change. Back in 2016, he promised to change his name to ‘No, My Name Is Jeffery’ if his Jeffery mixtape sold 100,000 copies in its first week. While the sales fell significantly short of that number, Young Thug still explained his preference to use his birth name.
“”I had a long-term relationship with Young Thug and I’m kind of picky. So I felt like I ain’t wanna be in front of Bill Gates or Oprah Winfrey. I ain’t want my kids to grow up and call me Thug,” he said. “I don’t want anybody to kind of look at me like that. So I’m gonna just use my real name.”
Now, SEX isn’t the first rapper to switch his name to something a little more direct and intimate. In 2017, Puff Daddy – also known as P. Diddy, Diddy and Sean Combs – announced that he was changing his name to ‘LOVE.’
It’s probably a little too late to change his name on the flyer for Sydney City Limits this weekend – but you can catch SEX alongside Future, Justice, Beck, Gang of Youths, The Libertines and many more this Saturday. It’s gonna be a nice time:
