21 years after his passing, the first Kurt Cobain solo album will be released this November.

After being the subject of the controversial biopic Montage of Heck, the album will be released to coincide with the arrival of the film on DVD on November 6th. During the research process for Montage of Heck, director Brett Morgen was given unprecedented access to Cobain’s works and archives – and he sorted through 200 hours of recordings to compile the album.

The album is set to feature music from the film and twelve additional tracks which have not yet been heard, including a “mind-blowing” 12-minute acoustic jam and even a comedic sketch from the former Nirvana frontman. Morgen says that the album is “curated to feel as though one were sitting in Kurt’s living room watching him create over the course of an afternoon.”

“These are all just Kurt by himself with the guitar. These aren’t multi-track, finished songs or work-ups, but they’re extraordinary, and I think they provide a tremendous insight into his [creative] process. I think they further our understanding of Kurt, both as a musician and as a man,” he continued.

According to Morgen, the album will paint a “lighter portrait of Kurt”, and we can’t wait to hear it.
