Derek Zoolander infiltrated Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, and now the male model has further cemented his place in the tumultuous world of #farshun by becoming the 100th person in Mario Testino’s ‘Towel Series’.
The photography series has featured the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and Blake Lively – and as you might have guessed, it features the world’s biggest stars with just a towel.
“It all started not long after I joined Instagram, when I saw Kate Moss backstage at one of our shoots, getting ready. She was wrapped up in a robe with a towel on her head. In that moment there was a beauty and purity I wanted to capture and share. I began to do more and more. I leave it completely up to my subjects to wear the towel how they want,” Testino explained.
“At a moment when we are bombarded by images and information, with the Towel Series I have chosen to take it back to the basics, taking away all the trimmings of our lives and present people bare with only a towel. A kind of purity in a way,” he continued.
Now, ahead of the release of Zoolander 2 in February 2016, Ben Stiller has gotten into character and stepped in front of the lens to celebrate the Towel Series reaching triple figures. See subject Number. 100 here:
