Field Day 2016: Our Predictions & Wishlist
Who will welcome the new year with us in Sydney?

August 18, 2015

Over the past few weeks, the lineups for Falls Festival, Lost Paradise and Beyond The Valley have been announced – giving us an indication of which internationals will be in Australia over the 2015/2016 transition.

This morning, the lineup for New Zealand soiree Rhythm & Vines revealed their first round of artists, which usually provides a little sneak peak into who will be gracing Sydney on New Year’s Day for Field Day. Taking all this information into account, we decided to wrap up 10 artists who we hope and pray will be making the Field Day entourage for 2016. No word on a lineup announcement date, but we’re thinking it’s gonna be sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, let the anticipation begin:

PUSHA T

When looking at the Beyond The Valley lineup, the first name we lost our shit over was Clipse legend Pusha T. Everything from the We Got It 4 Cheap days to his solo effort My Name Is My Name has been ultra-impressive on our earholes, and while he supported G.O.O.D Music colleague Kanye West back in 2013, a festival run would be a different experience altogether. This needs to happen!

PENDULUM

Pendulum were announced on the Rhythm & Vines lineup this morning, the same festival they headlined back in 2011 – and given the focus on Knife Party in recent years, a set from the Australian bass exports is something special. Rumours of a new album and reunion tour have been rife for some time now – let’s hope that this marks the beginning of another chapter in the Pendulum legacy.

JAMIE XX

The genius behind one of 2015’s best albums with In Colour, Jamie XX will appear at Beyond The Valley and Lost Paradise – and we’re hoping he sticks in Sydney for Field Day. Better yet, let’s pray that he brings Young Thug and Popcaan along for a live rendition of his definitive summer anthem, ‘I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)’. And speaking of that track…

SKEPTA

Having recently delivered his own remix of ‘Good Times’ for Beats 1, there’s simply no stopping Skepta in 2015. He’s by far the biggest name in grime right now, elevating the underground UK scene into international spotlight. He already has a Melbourne show locked in for January 8 in Melbourne, while promoters BBE have hinted that he will be spending NYE in Australia.

JOY.

With a new Ode EP set to drop next Friday, JOY. has been captivating audiences while playing shows alongside the likes of TOKiMONSTA, Tkay Maidza and Miami Horror in 2015, and was also added to Beyond The Valley. Taking all the darker and more refined elements of pop, indie and electronica, her voice can captivate in any setting – and anybody who covers Take Care singles is a winner in our books.

BOYS NOIZE

Having performed everywhere from Future Music Festival to Stereosonic, Boys Noize is an Australian festival expert who knows how to get dancefloors moving with his brand of club-ready house and techno. Performing at Beyond The Valley, we’re thinking that a late afternoon set from the German lord would be nice at Field Day – especially his tried-and-tested banger ‘Yeah’ at a very loud volume.

RL GRIME

Listening to RL Grime’s Halloween mixes are enough to get us morbid and manic in preparation for his incoming tour, where he’s been locked in for Beyond The Valley as well as Rhythm & Vines over in New Zealand. Plenty of bass and 2 Chainz anthems are in store for his set, which bridge hip-hop and electronica with unforgiving intensity.

DISCLOSURE

Disclosure were one of the most prominent names of the house revival when they dropped their excellent debut Settle in 2013, and they look to do it all again with their soon to be released album Caracal. While they’ll be performing at Falls Festival, they’ve also been a favourite at Fuzzy events in the past – let’s pray that they can squeeze in a set at Field Day.

YUNG LEAN

With his quirky online aesthetic, Swedish rapper Yung Lean seems like a perfect fit for Field Day’s boutique lineup. He’ll be appearing at Beyond The Valley, but should he make it to Sydney on New Year’s Day, be prepared for the Tumblr kids to be out in full force. Weird, stoned production will hopefully be sending Sydneysiders into a haze.

ANNA LUNOE

Having visited Australia a few months back, Anna Lunoe will be returning for Lost Paradise in Sydney for the closing moments of 2015. The local wonder has been making a solid name for herself in America for the past three years, with releases on Fool’s Gold and OWSLA – fingers crossed that she can have a festival set to a hometown crowd at Field Day.
