2003 called and it wants the box office back.

In news that will be hugely significant to millennials and Gen Zs (and basically everyone else), Disney has confirmed that it is working on a sequel to the iconic 2003 film, Freaky Friday.

Not only that, but the sequel is allegedly expected to star OG cast members Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis in their roles of Anna and Tess Coleman.

A melting pot of teenage angst, the film (based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel) follows a clashing mother and daughter who unwittingly switch bodies in a very ~freaky~ incident.

The 2003 film was actually the third time the book had been adapted into movie format (with other adaptations released in 1976 and 1995), but it was certainly the most culturally impactful, raking in more than $237 million globally.

While not much is currently known about the sequel, apparently Curtis has been pushing for it, revealing in an interview earlier this month that she and Lohan still keep in touch, and to this day she is constantly asked about the possibility of a sequel.

Apparently, Curtis herself called up Disney last year about the possibility of a sequel and the actress even posted a not-so-cryptic shot of herself and Lohan on Instagram in February, which only stoked the Freaky Friday frenzy.

Lindsay Lohan has also been making a comeback of late, starring in a Netflix rom-com last year and landing a few reality TV and stage roles, while also pregnant with her first child.

Lohan has also previously voiced that she’d be open to a sequel, commenting: “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

While no official cast or release info has been confirmed, there are sure to be more details incoming.
