Two generations of the West Coast.

It’s official: Kendrick Lamar will induct N.W.A into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, marking another union between two generations of West Coast hip-hop.

Off the momentum of Straight Outta Compton, N.W.A were announced to enter the illustrious Hall of Fame last December, and now it has been confirmed that Lamar will do the honours in celebrating the gangster rap pioneers’ achievements. Lamar previously featured in the trailer for Straight Outta Compton, while he also interviewed the group about their tumultuous history and impact.

Lamar’s announcement is fitting, given that way back in 2011 his mentor and N.W.A producer Dr. Dre had already crowned him as “the new king of the West Coast.” Meanwhile, the feeling is mutual: Lamar said that “N.W.A did a lot more than entertain. They told the truth.”

The ceremony will take place on April 8 at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, just one week before Ice Cube hits Coachella – and where N.W.A are rumoured to reunite once more. Let’s hope that this actually occurs, and that Lamar makes a sneaky onstage cameo with the group. Meanwhile, you can read our interview with Lamar here and get ready for his Australian tour next month:
