When I was 18 years old, I was going to Schoolies, attempting beer bongs and generally being a useless piece of crap. That’s not the case with Tkay Maidza, the young Adelaide emcee who’s been killing competition with her charismatic flow.

Dancing the line between hip-hop and electronica, Tkay’s sound makes her an obvious choice for festivals over the summer. She’ll be playing all three editions of Falls Festival, but she’s got a whole stack of news before those gigs during the 2014/2015 transition.

First up, her debut EP ‘Switch Tape’ will be released on October 24. To give us a taste of the EP, she’s dropped ‘Switch Lanes’ – a track which sees her switch between an assertive flow and a melodic hook with heavy R&B influence.

Secondly, she’s dropped a stack of dates over the next three months – most of these will be headline shows, while she’ll also be joining fellow local Illy on a couple of gigs.

Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, she’s signed on with The Agency Group – the same booking agents who look after the likes of ASAP Rocky, ASAP Ferg, Danny Brown, Vic Mensa and lots of other phenomenal artists. This only confirms our suspicions that Tkay is going to be an international hit in due time.
