Who could’ve seen this coming?

In some news that definitely isn’t surprising any UFC fans, Conor McGregor is coming out of retirement once again. The news comes after the announcement of his retirement earlier in the year, in which he stressed he was done with the sport for good. But, knowing McGregor, we all figured it was just a matter of time before he would return to the Octagon, and we’re gonna see that happen on January 23.

The opponent he’s facing is none other than Dustin Poirer, facing off in the main event of UFC 257. Both fighters are definitely going into the fight on a high, with Conor pulling off a 40-second TKO win over Donald ‘Cowby Cerrone’ just last year and Dustin Poirer winning by unanimous decision over Dan Hooker back in June.

Speaking on reuniting with his former competitor, McGregor said “I am very grateful to be about to return and get to do what I love again. I look forward to the fresh test Dustin will bring since our first bout, while also showcasing my own incredibly deep cache of weaponry. Whatever tool is needed on the night will be pulled from the duffel.”

It seems that McGregor and Poirer are the two GOATS of the lightweight division following the retirement of undefeated champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, who announced his leaving the sport following his defeat of Aussie hero Justin Gaethje.

But even the though title is essentially vacant at the moment, with UFC boss Dana White still holding onto his hope that Khabib will return to the sport, explaining “No, it won’t be for the title. Khabib’s gonna fight again. I believe he’s gonna fight. It’s not for the title.”

Regardless, we’re keen to see Conor return to the Octagon. Check out his 2014 fight with Poirer below.
