Changed the sport…

Argentina football legend Diego Maradona has passed away from a heart attack, his estate has confirmed. The news comes after the former midfielder underwent surgery earlier this month for a blood clot on his brain, but according to reports his death was due to a heart attack he suffered while at his Buenos Aires home yesterday.

Maradona is best known for his legendary Argentina captaincy of 1986, which led to them winning the World Cup in Mexico. The tournament also made for one of his most memorable moments: His famed ‘Hand of God’ goal against England in the quarter finals.

After starting with the Argentino Juniors, he moved to the Boca Juniors before moving to Barcelona in 1982. Soon after however, he moved to Italy and joined Napoli, leading them to their first ever Italian League title in 1987.

His career following retirement saw him work as a manger in the sport, coaching the Argentine national team from 2008 to 2010 before coaching in the Middle East and Mexico.

The Argentina Government has declared three days of mourning, with President Alberto Fernandez saying in a tweet “We will miss you all our lives.”

“You took us to the highest point of the world, and made us immensely happy. You were the greatest of all. Thank you for having been with us, Diego.”

Pretty sad news, our wishes go out to his family. Check our his legendary ‘Hand of God’ goal below.
