For about 30 years, Aussie photographer Mike O’Meally has been travelling the globe shooting some of the world’s best skaters in a way that marries “sport” photography and art with the seemingly effortless click of the button. You know his shots, you’ve seen them everywhere. From magazine covers, to work with Vans and Nike, he’s been an ever-present force in the skating ecosystem.
Now he’s inviting us to examine his humble beginnings: the streets of Sydney in the 90s, a time when street skateboarding was at its most raw and exciting, when the idea of skating being an olympic sport was laughable. Fittingly, the snaps featured are “Unseen, Unscanned, Uncovered” which should give you a fairly strong indication that they’re gonna be as unvarnished and gritty as they come.
