Michael Jordan, king of the basketball court and sports-documentaries, how truly outdone himself with his latest bit of philanthropy, proving he’s the absolute GOAT (and we won’t hear otherwise). Now, the Last Dance star is donating a whopping $10 million USD ($12 Million AUD) to open up two new health clinics in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina.
The former bulls star is working with Novant Health, which is a non-profit health care group with hospitals and medical centres throughout the area. Issuing a statement on his donation, the non-profit said that it would bring “comprehensive primary care, including behavioral health and social support services, to the area’s most vulnerable communities.”
The clinics are scheduled to open early next year, and are set to offer “much-needed services to those who are uninsured or underinsured.”
Speaking on the donation, Jordan said he’s extremely proud to “bring better access to critical medical services in my hometown. Everyone should have access to quality health care, no matter where they live, or whether or not they have insurance. Wilmington holds a special place in my heart and it’s truly gratifying to be able to give back to the community that supported me throughout my life.”
The move comes after he opened two clinics in the same area in 2017, which have since seen more than 4,500 patients and been integral in providing COVID-19 response in North Carolina, administering almost 1,000 COVID-19 vaccine shots with plans to scale it up even further.
Here’s to the GOAT of all GOATs. For now, check out footage of the opening of his first clinic to shed a couple tears below.
