In some absolutely glorious news, the UFC has confirmed that former Aussie middleweight champ Rob Whittaker is set to make his UFC return on Fight Island on July 26 (AEST). Whittaker, who hasn’t fought since losing his belt to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243 last year, will face off against welterweight juggernaut Darren Till, taking to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
Till has been doing pretty well lately, the Liverpool star finding huge success in the welterweight division following losses at the hands of Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal. But he’s been on a meteoric rise ever since his win against Jiu-Jista black belt Kelvin Gastelum at middleweight.
At this point in time Whittaker is still the No. 1 ranked contender in the division, so this fight will definitely be every bit as explosive as you’d expect. He was actually booked to fight Jared Cannonier in March, but pulled out due to personal reasons.
Regardless, this match is definitely shaping up to be a huge bout, and no doubt it’ll be amazing to see the Aussie star return to the Octagon.
