A fate we wouldn’t wish on our worst enemies…

A tight basketball game always messes with the emotions. Add in money to the equation, and boy, you’re in for a properly anxiety inducing time. A TAB punter took that to the extreme the other day, placing $228,733 on the Lakers to win against the Denver Nuggets. If he won, he would’ve made a profit of $86,918.54. But, as you’ve probably guessed by now, old mate definitely didn’t win, and the ride was bloody awful for the poor bloke.

The majority of the game saw Denver out in front, holding a ten point lead at halftime. Thus, being a smart bloke, the punter re-evaluated his bet, and ended up cashing out, with the hope of reinvesting. He ended up took the $97,624 on offer and put it on Denver to win at -9.5, which means they had to win by ten points or more.

The rest of the story is fucking heartbreaking.

So Denver really doubled down and ended up even attaining a 20 point lead, but against all odds and surprisingly literally everyone in the world, the Lakers somehow dug deep, and starting coming back hard, ending up closing the ten-point lead to a three point lead.

But Denver persevered, and ended up getting back to a ten point lead with under ten seconds to go. But, as if by some act of divine intervention, the Lakers were awarded back possession the with five seconds to go. Obviously having no chance of winning, the Lakers could’ve just dribbled the clock out, but it’s almost like Lakers guard Alex Caruso knew old mate all the way down in Australia was riding on Denver keeping a ten point lead, and went out of his way to personally fuck his day up. Thus, Caruso took the pass and laid the ball into the basket with just over a second left, making the score 114-106, making it an EIGHT point lead, not ten.

As you can probably guess, the punter left the TAB empty handed, and we honestly would totally understand if he broke down in tears. Fingers crossed he has better luck when betting next time. Check the full highlights from the game below.
