The new Vans Pro Skate Park Series – as the five events are collectively known – has a system worked out allow five wildcards to go head-to-head against fifteen of the world’s best skaters at the final in Malmö, Sweden.
Here’s how it’ll all go down. Over the course of four qualifier events over the next couple months – in locations as widespread as Melbourne, Brazil, British Columbia, and Huntington Beach – established amateurs and pros alike will be able to compete for a spot in the championship at the brand new terrain park in Sweden on August, 20th. The park itself was donated by Vans to the community of Malmö for their unprecedented support of the city’s youth skate culture. I guess now we know where to look out for talent in the next few years.
Approved competitors will rack up points for performance at each event, aiming for the highest average tally over their best three placements. The top five skaters are off to Sweden, competing for a total prize purse of over $500,000. “I’m super hyped to skate the new Vans Park Series… It’s a contest that is needed in skateboarding and I can’t think of a more authentic brand than Vans to get behind such an event,” pro skater Curren Caples said.
Check out the fifteen pre-seeded skaters below and be sure to watch the official trailer. The first event kicks off in Melbourne April 16th – see all the qualifier dates here:
