Byron act Ziggy Alberts warmed us up (musically) in the newest Falls space, Rancho Relaxo. Rich vocals and an open, relaxed vibe appropriately christened the chilled space. He will be one of the daily performers in Rancho and we’ll definitely be back for some more of his sound.
Badbadnotgood were actually very, very good. Three Toronto boys with a clear Detroit influence confused some but delighted many. Their jazzy gorgeousness brought a level of cohesion to the Grand Theatre stage that may not be seen again after this day. 10 Koppaberg’s out of 10.
Salt n Pepa did a call out to all their “70’s babies” – about six people – then focused entirely on educating their 90’s born audience on the delights of oldschool. While the set highlights were undoubtedly “Let’s Talk About Sex” and “Push It,” the girls smashed out hit after hit without flaw. Breaking it up with a bit of everything; Nirvana, Iggy, Guns N Roses – they welcomed their crowd with open arms but never lost their original flavor, cleverly bridging a generation gap and getting everyone dancing.
Alison Wonderland, in contrast to her Grand Theatre predecessors, was what the crowd knew they would love. Off the back of a huge 2014 – a successful tour playing warehouses and inking her first major record deal, this girl was ready to celebrate. Showering the crowd in ticker tape during “I Want U” halfway through her set, she was in for the long haul and the kids were there with her.
Homesickness, fatigue, sugar lows, loneliness, general drink requirements- all ails have potential for cure at Kopparberg’s cider house. Homey Swedish decor, friendly staff and conveniently located next to the entrance to the Grand Theatre… we’ll see you there.
