Seattle has long established itself as a hub for grunge, so it comes as no surprise that the city is hosting art from the movement’s biggest icon.

Kurt Cobain, the late former frontman of Nirvana, currently has artworks being displayed at the Seattle Art Fair – two of which have never been seen before. One painting became the cover of Nirvana’s b-side compilation Incesticide, while another is a re-imagination of Iron Maiden’s infamous skeletal mascot, Eddie. Most of the other images continue along the same themes of jarring, morbid imagery.

At the Fair, Cobain’s works will be displayed in a booth operated by United Talent Agency. “Kurt Cobain was perhaps the most iconic musician of his generation, but his work as a visual artist is often overlooked. These paintings provide an opportunity to see him, and some of his contemporaries, in a new light,” head of UTA Fine Arts Josh Roth says.
