With the evolution of smartphones, it feels like kids nowadays start amateur photography soon after they learn how to speak.

Still, it’s never too late to pick up a new skill, as seen by 89-year-old Japanese grandma Kimiko Nishimoto. When she was 72-years-old, she enrolled in a photography beginners course taught by her son, which sparked a passion for stepping behind, and in front of the lens.

10 years later, she held her first exhibition at a local museum in her home town of Kumamoto, and now she’s about to have new work displayed at Tokyo’s Epson epsite imaging gallery. Her new collection of work is titled Asobokane, which means ‘Let’s Play’ – and features Nishimoto in a range of hilarious and pretty amazing self-portraits, including dressing up as a frog, getting loaded on beers, and casually hanging off a clothesline:
