Just last week, the Byron mega-festival announced that it would be returning to North Byron Parklands, locking in the very crucial dates of Friday, July 20 to Sunday, July 22. And with the announcement of the dates, the Internet’s investigative work has begun. The regular rumour mill for SITG throws all sorts of names into the spotlight, but one prominent act is looking quite likely for a 2017 trip Down Under.
As highlighted by Pedestrian.TV, indie rock favourites Arctic Monkeys recently uploaded a string of European festival dates for mid-2018, which will see them perform live for the first time in four years. However, looking at the Monkeys’ calendar below, you’ll notice that there’s a sizeable gap in their schedule, with a date in Madrid, Spain on July 13 and the next in Oslo, Norway on August 8:
It’s an unusually large gap – especially seeing the proximity of all the other dates – and leaves more than enough time for Arctic Monkeys to head down under for Splendour on July 20-22. It’s purely speculation at this point, but given that Arctic Monkeys have played Splendour before, now’s a better time than ever with their sixth album expected to release sometime this year.
Could the band be making their comeback on the grandest Australian stage of all? With a stack of festival dates already under their belt, it sure wouldn’t hurt to add Splendour in there. We’ll have to wait and see.
