Unsurprisingly, Avengers: Infinity War opened huge over the weekend, making a staggering $630 million USD worldwide. The third instalment in the mega franchise has taken the top spot in having the biggest opening weekend of all time, edging out Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Fate of the Furious. With the film not even open in China until May 11, Marvel has already set an incredibly high bar for 2018.
Not to be left out, Australia contributed a very respectable $23 million to that behemoth of a number in the 5 days it’s been open. Putting it on track to becoming the biggest film in Australian box office history.
After 18 films in the sprawling cinematic universe, Infinity War sees all of Marvel’s biggest stars come to together for the first time. Already the film ha s been praised by critics and punters alike, holding a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With a rumoured slate of Superhero movies continuing for the next decade, Marvel has no plans for stopping its worldwide domination anytime soon.
Fans craving there next hit of the Avengers will have to wait until May 3, 2019.
