Performing in Minneapolis, Metallica bassist Kirk Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett delivered a grinding rendition of Prince’s 1984 classic.

Surely Metallica would have learned their lesson after their flop of an album with Lou Reed, Lulu, that united critics and fans in agreement that it was nothing more than a vanity project by a collection of musician who were way past their prime. But no, they have to drag Prince down with them and once again attempt to stray from metal and mess everything up.

For some reason the group also left the two least remarkable personalities in the band to pay tribute to one of pop’s most iconic performers, resulting in a sloppy rendition that would surely have Prince rolling in his purple, hardwood grave (with velvet interior). It truly is reminiscent of those hugely popular ‘shred’ videos from a couple of years back – see the comparison below.

In other news, Prince is deader than ever.
