He may be gone, but Lakers GOAT Kobe is still making waves long after his passing. With the The Last Dance absolutely killing it on Netflix, basketball fans across the world were immediately thinking of who else was so deserving of a similar documentary. Of course, the immediate answer was Kobe Bryant, yet, his untimely death seemed to have shut down any chance of that happening.
Or so we thought. It turns out that Kobe was actually working on his own documentary of his final Lakers 2015-2016 season, with him having seen edited material and provided feedback to filmmakers in the months before his death.
The camera crews that were working on the doco had been granted “greater access than anyone else ever” according to Lakers’ PR, being granted access to locker rooms, practice facility, team plane and training room. A member of Lakers PR said “We certainly allowed them to do everything we could within what the league would allow, and sometimes, with a wink and look-the-other-way, allowed them even more.”
The doco was planned to be released years from now, and apparently that isn’t set to change. Fair enough, if it takes them years to get it right, we’re totally on board with that. You can’t play with Kobe’s legacy…
