Aussie artists are definitely feeling the groove…

Now that local acts are starting to drop music at an incredible pace, we’re honestly having trouble keeping up with the thrill of it all! And the fact that more & more live gigs are being announced every day is just the cherry on top. The excitement that’s permeating the local music scene is completely intoxicating, and we’re absolutely loving it. Thus, we’re coming through with another five zingers brought to you by some super talented local artists, who are proving that even though we don’t have international acts visiting our shores for gigs or festivals, we have plenty of treasure right here, right in front of us.

Taka Perry – ‘Only U’ Ft. Gia Vorne

The nation is starting to wake up to the genius that is Taka Perry, and it’s about damn time. For real, the Sydney producer has been grinding away on the Aussie music scene for a hot minute now, producing for everyone from Ruel to A.GIRL and Texas Megastar Max Frost. He’s a straight up beast, and if ‘Only U’ is anything to go off, he’s gonna be sticking around for a long, long time. The track also features some soulful af vocals from the goddess herself Gia Vorne, as she serenades us with that heart-melting voice about that special someone, that someone who’s the only one that can ‘turn this thing around’. The pair are a match made in heaven, with Taka’s sweetly textured production perfectly complimenting Gia’s lyrical blessings. After listening to the track, it’s more than clear that the Aussie music scene is in good hands with young artists like Taka & Gia leading the way. Bootleg Rascal – ‘Milk In My Bowl’

Sydney dub-lords Bootleg Rascal are proper veterans in the local music scene, consistently dropping psychedelic & soul infused bangers that always manage to hit the spot & then some. Luckily for us, they’re not slowing down any time soon, their latest track ‘Milk In My Bowl’ taking everything we love from mates Carlos & Jimmy and throwing it into a bustling melting pot of gorgeous funk, itching for a sweet release. The track sees the pair double down on their lyrical & musical talents as they envelope us in a delicious wall of melodic sweetness, that addictive hook luring us ever so closer into their grasp. It’s one of those tunes that you just know are gonna go off live, a perfect crowd singalong that, let’s face it, the Bootleg Rascal boys have proven themselves to be absolute masters of.

This Week in the Universe – ‘Distance’ Ft. Ric Rufio

Have you ever wanted to traverse a sonic landscape from the comfort of your own home? If so, you need to chuck on ‘Distance’ by This Week in the Universe ft. Ric Rufio. The tune is a total explosion of the senses, as Sydney synth-siblings Beau and Casey Golden hold your hand along the peaks and valleys of auditory wonder. Featuring some gorgeous synths, trance-like vocals and some expertly-used effects, the electronic duo craft a digital nirvana that bends all time and space. The siblings are clear masters of their craft, and its no wonder they’ve worked with the likes of Lily Allen, Claptone and Vera Blue. Their sonic wizardry is second to none, and with Flight Facilities vocalist Ric Rufio’s enchanting tones, the pair have come through with a deeply rich tune.

Lorelei – ‘Pale’

We all have those tunes we chuck on when we’re driving alone late at night, or just when we’re vibing out in an attempt to escape the craziness of everyday life. It’s usually a playlist that brings us a certain amount of peace, an injection of euphoria that’s fleeting, but impactful. If you’re looking for another addition to add to that medicinal trove of sound, we’re prescribing Lorelei’s ‘Pale’, which is out today. Brought to us by the Sydney-based dream-pop duo made up of Claudia Schmidt and Arlen McCarthy, the tune captures the haunting but mesmerising aura of Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’, but adds its own undertones of noirish stardust. Claudia’s vocals curate the track with total ease, narrating the journey into the known unknown with an inescapable magnetism.

Velvet Trip – ‘Voodoo Cosmic Girl’

Velvet Trip are a straight up onslaught of psychedelia & blues, carrying on the spirit of Hendrix himself with their untameable guitar lines and attitude drenched vocals. ‘Voodoo Cosmic Girl’ is a perfect example of their talents, as the four-piece crafts a fully immersive psychedelic experience with devilish precision. They also treat us to a lush instrumental section, helmed by a glorious guitar lead that sounds like, well, if a guitar gained the ability to talk and was trying to tell you much they bloody love Velvet Trip.
