Adding to the list of the never-ending talents to grace its stage, the NFL has managed to bag Toronto megastar The Weeknd for the 2021 iteration of the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show, which is set to take place on February 7.
Speaking on the decision, Pepsi’s Vice President of Marking Todd Kaplan said “After a year that’s largely been void of live music, we can’t wait to watch The Weeknd transform the world’s biggest stage with his limitless talent and creativity, delivering what will most certainly be an unforgettable performance that will be remembered for years to come.”
It seems Pepsi are fully down to reimagine the halftime show as well, with Senior Vice President of Sports, Media, and Entertainment added, “In collaboration with the NFL and Roc Nation, we continue to reimagine what a Pepsi Halftime Show looks like with some of the biggest musicians in the world. We expect The Weeknd will continue to raise the bar, setting a new precedent both musically and visually for the most-watched performance of the year.”

He’s got a bit of competition, following the likes of Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Coldplay and so many more. But damn, 2020 has been crazy for The Weeknd. His March album After Hours proved to be the smash that kept on smashing, while the deluxe version was packed with mad features, all leading to him copping a MTV VMA. He also appeared on Ariana Grande’s new album and Calvin Harris’ latest single. No doubt he’s gonna bring that same fire to the halftime show, and we’re bloody keen.
