Capturing the ingenuity and innovation of one of the greatest EDM duos of all time (we’re still mourning their break up), a Korean YouTuber by the name of 차커 Chaco has made the ultimate DIY tribute to the sonic wizards, and has recreated some of their greatest hits.
It’s pretty common that Daft Punk gets covered on YouTube though, countless musos trying to recreate the tunes that helped soundtrack their lives. However, the weapon of choice is usually a keyboard, synth or guitar, not a fucking calculator (an AR7778 calculator to be exact).
Utilising the calculator’s music function (hit the Time/Date buttons twice), the YouTuber is able to reproduce a dope 8-bit sound that sounds eerily like the analogue synths that lay the foundations for early hits like “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” and the more recent “Get Lucky” with Pharrell.
But regardless, considering how bloody complex Daft Punk songs are, just one calculator wouldn’t cut it. Hence, 차커 Chaco uses a whopping four, and plays them all at once as he shows off his obvious musical prowess and ingenuity. Start your Wednesday by witnessing some killer musical chops below!
