Whether you love him or hate him, Kanye West’s Netflix doco is set to be a major event this year…

And all eyes will be on the hip hop OG, his life and rise to prominence set to be outlined via a three-part documentary on Netflix. And adding hype to the overall project, we’ve finally gotten a first look at act one of the hip hop chronicle in the form of an official teaser; and it doesn’t disappoint.

Running at just over a minute long, the teaser features footage from Kanye’s College Dropout era all the way to his Life of Pablo listening parties and iconic Coachella performances. But theres plenty of substance to go along with the glitz and glam, with Kanye’s mother Donda making an appearance along with clips of him in the studio with notable faces such as Pharrell Williams, Rhymefest and of course, JAY-Z.

The heart of the trailer however (and where the name is seemingly derived) comes from an exchange with Rhymefest at the beginning, where Kanye explains that they’d gotten into an argument after Rhymefest refused to call him a genius, to which Fest responds “Well who are you to call yourself a genius?” And of course, Kanye looks directly at the camera, and the trailer begins.

It’s definitely got a good mix of old and new Kanye, all the while keeping his signature bravado as a through line. Peep the teaser trailer for act one of jeen-yuhs below.
