Although it was released almost three years ago, it’s safe to say Adam Sandler is still riding off the success of Uncut Gems, his portrayal of charismatic jeweller Howard Ratner earning him critical acclaim while reminding the world of his talents as a dramatic actor. Now, the Sandman is making another foray into the more theatrical end of the big screen, once again teaming up with Netflix for the Lebron James-produced Hustle.
The trailer follows Sandler’s character Stanley Sugarman, a down on his luck scout for the Philadelphia 76ers, and his efforts to bring a Spanish prodigy Bo Cruz (played by NBA star Juancho Hernangómez) to the US.
Featuring plenty of basketball montages, intense exchanges and light-hearted humour, the teaser showcases Sandler’s effectiveness when he’s given a fleshed-out character who’s purpose extends beyond being the comic relief in a film (look no further than 1:50 onward), and no doubt harkens back to the gravitas he displayed in 2019’s Uncut Gems.
Definitely a Sandman performance we’re keen for. Hustle comes out on Netflix on June 8th. Check the full trailer below.
