Night Country marks a new chapter for True Detective, with showrunner Nic Pizzolatto exiting the series at the end of the last season. Nevertheless, there’s a strong team in his wake, including Barry Jenkins (Aftersun, Moonlight) who is stepping into the role of executive producer, alongside OG True Detective stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
True Detective first premiered in 2014 and featured McConaughey and Harrelson as Louisiana state police. In the following seasons, the series took us to California with Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn, and then to Arkansas with Mahershala Ali as Detective Wayne Hays in Season 3.
