Anyone up for a cross country road trip?

If there was ever an Aussie band you could consistently rely on to serve up intricate, catchy and moving bops, it’d be Fremantle’s own San Cisco. Whether it be indie rock, pop soul and bedroom pop (that Clairo cover will always be a core memory), the four best mates from WA seem to be able to do it all. Now, they’re turning their attention to the dance genre with their latest single, ‘Honeycomb’.

Led by drummer Scarlett Stevens, the new entry in the San Cisco discography is a laid back garage tune that makes use of glitzy drum lines and synths. Tying it all together is Scarlett’s pristine vocals, which feature numerous harmonies and a measured delivery as she serves up a magnetic delivery of lines like “You’re sweet as honey.”

The accompanying video (directed by Caeley Wesson) blurs the lines between reality and mystery as we follow Scarlett to the WA coastline of Prevelly and Gnarabup.  Throughout it all we get plenty of glimpses at the bush and ocean while interspersed with shots of Scarlett finding her way through it all. Mixed with the ethereal sonics the visualiser adds an extra sense of mysticism to the overall track, elevating it beyond the usual indie pop single.

Speaking on the meaning behind the new single, the band explains, “Honeycomb is about the moreish feeling of falling in love. It’s about self love and self confidence and the joy of food. It treads this fine line of not wanting to lose yourself to love but also surrendering completely to someone and the sweet feeling that comes with that.”

With ‘Honeycomb,’ San Cisco has once again proven their ability to continually evolve and surprise listeners with their range as songwriters, and whether you’re a new fan or have been along for the ride since the days of ‘Fred Astaire’, we’re guessing you’re gonna love ‘Honeycomb’ equally as much.
