The new drop from Reef and Wahine captures the Hawaiian surf spirit perfectly.

Some things just go together – bread and butter, hammer and nail, watching Evan Mock skate and feeling inferior… And of course flip-flops (as they’re called in the US of A) and the beach. The iconic duo is being celebrated in the two-piece Wahine x Reef collab which just dropped as of this morning.

“I can’t help but think about Hawaii every time I see slippers [flip-flops],” Mock said in an interview with WWD. “They were such a big part of my life growing up in Hawaii. And, if I didn’t start skating so early as a kid, I probably wouldn’t have worn actual shoes for a few more years. Because, where I’m from, you either went barefoot, or you wore slippers.”

The drop sees stalwarts of sand-centred footwear Reef tap into the rising cultural force that is Wahine, with the capsule utilising two classic Reef silhouettes. The first is a rhinestone-covered version of the Reef Smoothy, with a slight platform, that has been designed as a unisex offering. The second is the Reef Ginger for women, which is available in blue and yellow.
