For a place that’s probably still best known internationally for theme parks, meter maids and Schoolies, the Gold Coast has punched ridiculously far above its weight when it comes to culture.
Surfing is obviously at the heart of it, with generations of surfers, shapers, photographers and brands helping make the Coast one of the centres of the surfing universe. Throw in musicians like FISHER and Amy Shark, plus its particular mix of fashion, nightlife and general sunny chaos, and there’s clearly something going on up there.
So it makes sense that Bastion Group has leaned heavily into surf culture for Surfer, its new $180 million, 100-apartment development on the Coast.
Last night we headed to the Mondrian in Burleigh Heads for the launch, joining surf talents Dane Henry and Milla Coco Brown alongside Josh Kerr, Gee Greenland, Jamie Durie and plenty more.
Bastion Group CEO Alex Wood and architect Joe Snell were also on hand to talk through Surfer, how the project came together and what they’re bringing to the Gold Coast.
