Maybe I’m just in the mood for a longwinded metaphor, but a blank American Apparel shirt and BigSound do have a few things in common – hear me out. Both look their best when there are artists involved, both give musicians a space to apply their creativity and both give you that feeling of damn-that’s-nice. Ok. We got there.
Yesterday we teamed up with American Apparel, handpicking some of our favourite artists of all genres to shoot backstage portraits, from inside an extremely red room somewhere on the fringes of the pumping heartbeat of Fortitude Valley.
Armed with seemingly every form of camera – from digital through to the iconic Polaroid Big Shot – we had the pleasure of photographing Birdland, Jalmar, Kaikobad, AKOSIA, Bala Rontu, Loosie Grind, Erika Ever, Ally Row, Sidney and Pretty Bleak. Shoutout to them for taking the time out from performing and partying to drop by.
Check out the gallery above for the best bits (no metaphors included) and shop American Apparel here.
